As action takes backseat, GoPro Hero8 Black takes up double duty of webcam

GoPro on Thursday announced a beta firmware update for its Hero8 Black to pull up a double job of an HD webcam. The action camera maker also made available desktop utility installation files, which helps complete the webcam set-up without any third-party accessories.

However, the GoPro Webcam desktop utility is currently available for macOS users and the support for Windows operating system is in development.

ASUS ROG Phone 3 to debut with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ SoC on July 22

Taiwanese electronics maker ASUS is gearing up to launch the third iteration of its gaming-centric ROG-series smartphone in India on July 22. Named ROG Phone 3, the smartphone will debut with the recently announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ system-on-chip, which brings up to 10 per cent improvement in computing and graphics performance over the predecessor.

ASUS is excited to once again offer users the best possible mobile gaming experience with the next-generation ROG Phone 3, which will be powered by the new Snapdragon 865 Plus Mobile Platform,” said Bryan Chang, general manager of smartphone business unit, ASUS.

ASUS ROG Phone 3 launch in India

The gaming smartphone will be launched in India through an online event on July 22 at 8:15 pm. ASUS India will livestream the event at its YouTube channel, and the link to the live feed shall be available before the launch. Like other ASUS smartphones, the ROG Phone 3 will be Flipkart-exclusive and the home-grown e-commerce platform has already published a teaser page of the upcoming phone.

Instagram rolls out ‘pinned comment’ feature for everyone: Details here

Facebook-owned photo-sharing app Instagram has rolled out the pinned comment feature to help users maximise engagement. The new feature will help users to pin on the top important or favourite comments on their posts, said the company.

“We’re rolling out pinned comments everywhere. That means you can a pin a few comments to the top of your feed post and better manage the conversation,” the company said in a tweet on Tuesday.

 Instagram started testing pinned comments in May alongside its comment filtering tools. One can pin up to three comments to the top of the post at a time, all of which will appear right underneath your photo with a “Pinned” label underneath it.

In addition to this, Instagram had also rolled out a feature for users to bulk delete comments.

To enable the feature on iOS, tap on a comment and then the dotted icon in the top right corner. Select Manage Comments and choose up to 25 comments to delete at once and then tap “More Options” to block or restrict accounts in bulk.

Samsung to launch Galaxy Note20-series, other Galaxy devices on August 5

Samsung on Wednesday announced that its next Galaxy Unpacked event of this year would take place on August 5. In the event, the South Korean electronics maker is expected to launch the Galaxy Note20-series smartphones along with other Galaxy devices, according to event invite shared by the company.

“On August 5, join us for a Galaxy Unpacked virtual event to explore our latest ecosystem of Galaxy devices designed to empower your life,” the invite added.

Gold price falls to Rs 48,100 per 10 gm, silver is Rs 49,600 a kg

Gold prices on Tuesday fell to Rs 48,100 from Rs 48, 320 per 10 gram, while silver climbed to Rs 49,600 from Rs 48,510 per kilogram, according to Good Returns website.

Gold jewellery prices vary across India, the second-largest consumer of the metal, due to excise duty, state taxes, and making charges.

  In New Delhi, the price of 22-carat gold slid to Rs 46,900 per 10 gram, and in Chennai to Rs 46,100. In Mumbai, the rate was Rs 47,950, according to the Good Returns website. The price of 24-carat gold prices in Chennai came to Rs 50,710.

On MCX, August gold futures jumped 0.37 per cent to Rs 48,225 per 10 gram. Silver July futures also climbed to Rs 49,790 per kilogram. MCX has decided to accept gold and silver bars refined at domestic refineries for deliveries, subject to final regulatory approval.

MCX received approval of Sebi for the launch of Gold Mini options with Gold Mini (100 grams) bar as underlying, MCX said in a statement.

Gold Mini Option August 2020, September 2020 and October 2020 contracts will be available for trading with effect from July 10, it added. The maximum single order size will be of 100 lots, it notified.

Final year exams in Sept: Know latest UGC guidelines for college students

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has revised guidelines on examinations and academic calendar for the universities in view of coronavirus pandemic and announced that the final year examinations in the universities will be held in September.

UGC guidelines for final year/semester exams

— The terminal semester(s)/final year(s) examinations be conducted by the universities/institutions by end of September 2020 in offline (pen & paper)/online/blended (online+ offline) mode

— Those students who have backlog should compulsorily be evaluated by offline or online examinations as per “feasibility and suitability”

— If a final year student is unable to appear in the examination, the university must arrange special examination for the student

In April 2020, the Commission constituted an Expert Committee to deliberate and make recommendations regarding the issues related to examinations and academic calendar. Based on the Committee’s report, the UGC issued guidelines on exams and academic calendar on April 29, 2020.

WhatsApp brand campaign in India sets itself as secure messaging platform

WhatsApp on Saturday said it is launching its ‘It’s Between You’ brand campaign in the country showcasing stories about how Indians are using the Facebook-owned platform to communicate in a secure manner.

WhatsApp collaborated with Bollywood director Gauri Shinde along with BBDO India to create two 60-second ads that highlight how its features like texts, video calls or even a voice message (which is end-to-end encrypted) help replicate in-person conversations, it said in a statement.

  With over 400 million users, India is among the biggest markets for WhatsApp.
