Realme X2 review: A midrange smartphone that has something for everyone

Chinese smartphone brand Realme made strides in several new areas last year. From foraying into the premium midrange segment to introducing true wireless earphones, the young and ambitious OPPO spin-off did not hesitate to explore and experiment. At the same time, it continued to focus on its midrange smartphone portfolio, considered its area of strength. A recent addition to this portfolio is the Realme X2, the plain-vanilla edition of its premium Realme X2 Pro.

Business Standard tried the Realme X2 to see how it fared on key parameters. Here is what we found in our review:

Design

The Realme X2 takes its design inspiration from the Pro edition in more ways than one. However, you cannot overlook how drastically similar it looks to the Realme XT as well. The phone has a glass construction, with a Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front and back, and a polycarbonate chassis that looks metallic. Though the phone’s back is resilient to scratches, its glass cover is prone to smudges and fingerprints. Thankfully, the phone comes bundled with a translucent TPU cover that protects its back and also levels the phone’s otherwise protruding rear camera module, which makes it uneven on flat surfaces.

‘No more birth tourism’: US to impose visa restrictions for pregnant women

The Trump administration is coming out Thursday with new visa restrictions aimed at restricting “birth tourism,” in which women travel to the US to give birth so their children can have a coveted US passport.

Visa applicants deemed by consular officers to be coming to the US primarily to give birth will now be treated like other foreigners coming to the US for medical treatment, according to State Department guidance sent Wednesday and viewed by The Associated Press.

The applicants will have to prove they are coming for medical treatment and they have the money to pay for it.

The State Department planned to publicise the rules Thursday, according to two officials with knowledge of the plans who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. The rules will take effect Friday. Here you can also read Budget2020 News

Skullcandy Sesh earbuds review: A good product for people on the go

When you are going for true-wireless earbuds, it’s best to spend a little extra, so that there is no disappointment with quality. What’s frustrating for those who want truly wireless earbuds is that there are very few good mid-range options. Blaupunkt did bring some good products for audiophiles (review), but it the only one until Skullcandy decided to throw its hat in the ring with the Sesh Bluetooth earbuds.

The Skullcandy Sesh earbuds fit well in your ears and, unlike most others, don’t fall off easily, no matter how extensive your movement. This was our first observation when we wore the earbuds for a running session.

The other thing that we noticed was the size: It’s a bit bigger than most earbuds in the market at present, so some people might not find them ideal for use, especially those who like to lie on their beds and binge-watch. Here you can also read Budget2020 News

Forgot your password? This WEF study reveals not having one is safer

With weak or stolen passwords accounting for an average of four out of five global data breaches, a new study has said it is safer not to have a password.

The new report released by the World Economic Forum, here during its 2020 annual meeting, said that freeing ourselves of passwords will actually make individuals safer and businesses more efficient.

Cybercrime is set to cost the global economy US2.9 million every minute in 2020, and some 80 per cent of these attacks are password-related.

Knowledge-based authentication whether with PINs, passwords, passphrases, or whatever we need to remember is not only a major headache for users, it is costly to maintain, the study found.

For larger businesses, it is estimated that nearly 50 per cent of IT help desk costs are allocated to password resets, with average annual spend for companies now at over US1 million for staffing alone. Here you can also read Budget2020 News

From Facebook to Twitter: How social media platforms handle political ads

Online platforms including Facebook and Alphabet Inc’s Google face growing pressure to stop carrying political ads that contain false or misleading claims ahead of the US presidential election. In the United States, the Communications Act prevents broadcast stations from rejecting or censoring ads from candidates for federal office once they have accepted advertising for that political race, although this does not apply to cable networks like CNN, or to social media sites, where leading presidential candidates are spending millions to target voters in the run-up to the November 2020 election.

The following is how social media platforms have decided to handle false or misleading claims in political ads:

How to manage diabetic neuropathy using therapies from natural systems

High levels of glucose in the blood can damage the peripheral nerves in your body, causing decreased sensation in the feet and hands as well as problems to the urinary tract, digestive system, and heart. With over 60 percent of diabetics eventually developing peripheral neuropathy, it is one of the main secondary complications they face. Mild to moderate symptoms include pain, numbness and tingling sensation in the feet and legs. In severe cases, it can lead to potentially serious complications such as gangrenous wounds that necessitate the amputation of a toe, foot or leg. Fortunately, diabetic neuropathy can be prevented if strict control is maintained on blood sugar levels on a daily basis. Lifestyle changes and complementary therapies derived from natural systems of medicine can help achieve this effectively. Three of the most commonly practiced alternative therapies to help prevent diabetic neuropathy are naturopathy, yoga and acupuncture.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient form of alternative medicine which originated in China. It uses the science of inserting long, fine needles at various points in the body to stimulate the sensory receptors and stimulate them. This transmits impulses to the hypothalamic pituitary axis, bringing down the levels of hormones like cortisol, adrenocorticotropin, and pregnenolone, which are responsible for sensations of pain and are released when the hypothalamus is hyper-aroused. Here you can also read Budget2020 News
