Amazon Pantry back online, resumes services in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune

Amazon Pantry, the company’s daily essentials store for Prime members, is back online and is accepting orders in a few cities after temporarily shutting down last week due to the lockdown.

It is now serviceable in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune for select pincodes. Pantry offers essentials including food, beverages, household supplies, health and beauty products at discounted rates.

On this day, 9 years ago, Dhoni’s six helped India win the second ODI WC

It was on April 2, 2011, when the Men in Blue went on to win their second 50-over World Cup title.

India won its first World Cup in 1983 and then had to wait for 28 years to again lift the title.

Going into the 2011 tournament, India went in as the clear favourites as the competition was to be played in the sub-continent.

Under MS Dhoni’s leadership, India lost just one match in the competition against South Africa.

India had defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in the semi-final to set up a summit clash with Sri Lanka.

In the finals, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first. Mahela Jayawardene top-scored for Sri Lanka as he struck a century to take the team’s score to 274/6.

India in their chase got off to a bad start as the side lost Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag with just 31 runs on the board.

Vulnerability in Zoom app let hackers steal your Windows password: Report

Slammed for the lack of users privacy and security by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and cybersecurity experts, video meeting app Zoom is also prone to hacking, a new report has claimed, saying an unpatched bug can let hackers steal users Windows password.

The ‘Zoom client for Windows’ is vulnerable to the ‘UNC path injection’ vulnerability that could let remote attackers steal login credentials for victims’ Windows systems, reports TheHacckeNews.

The latest finding by cybersecurity expert @_g0dmode, has also been “confirmed by researcher Matthew Hickey and Mohamed A. Baset,’ the report said late Wednesday.

The attack involves the “SMBRelay technique” wherein Windows automatically exposes a user’s login username and NTLM password hashes to a remote server, when attempting to connect and download a file hosted on it.

“The attack is possible only because Zoom for Windows supports remote UNC paths, which converts such potentially insecure URLs into hyperlinks for recipients in a personal or group chat,” the report claimed.

Slack integrates Microsoft Teams app for video call, Zoom for VoIP calls

In a bid to simplify life for millions of people working from home, enterprise messaging platform Slack has launched a new app to integrate its rival Microsoft Teams video call features into its chat app.

According to The Verge, Slack users will be able to set Microsoft Teams Calls as the default calling provider from Thursday.

Once you’ve set up the Teams app in Slack, you’ll be able to start a call by simply using the command /teams-call.

You will also be able to see the participants in a meeting before you join in.

Alongside the Microsoft Teams integration, Slack is also launching VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) phone integration with Zoom, Cisco Jabber, RingCentral and Dialpad productivity services.

Slack has seen nearly 350 percent growth in calls made or received in its chat app over the past month, as enterprises and SMBs adopt remote working during the new coronavirus pandemic.

Microsoft’s unified communications platform for workplace called Teams has reached 44 million daily active users (DAUs).

The Teams’ nearest competitor Slack last announced 12 million DAUs in October.

After Rs 21,000-cr turnover in 2019-20, HAL eyes higher growth this year

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on Tuesday announced a record turnover of over Rs 21,100 crore (provisional and unaudited) for 2019-20. This amounts to a growth of 7 per cent over the previous year’s turnover of Rs 19,705 crore.

This achievement comes despite “difficulties in cash flows, interruptions in operations due to workmens’ agitation and the interruption arising in March due to the Covid-19 lockdown. It has affected the final tests and certification of certain additional aircraft that were under final stages of production,” said HAL in a press release.

During the year 2019-20, HAL said it has delivered 31 aircraft/helicopters and 117 new engines. It has also overhauled 199 aircraft/helicopters and 490 engines.

Speaking to Business Standard after the announcement, HAL’s chairman R Madhavan said the company’s healthy order book made it likely that the coming year would see similar growth.

Tech billionaires making friends with Big Brother

There are no atheists in foxholes, and no tech regulators in a coronavirus lockdown. What was once thunderously described as “surveillance capitalism” is now a pandemic necessity. Twitch is where our children go to school; Twitter where epidemiological models are debated; and WhatsApp where we have drinks with friends. Some 40 per cent of the world’s population is living under lockdown, according to AFP, creating exactly the kind of bored and isolated citizens whose

fingers linger over their Facebook app button, as my colleague Alex Webb notes. Our personal information is hoovered up as before, but data privacy is now gone from our hierarchy of needs.

Likewise, the market power that made Big Tech look so dangerous makes it look vital and dependable now. Amazon.com Inc., which has always wanted to be the Everything Store, is now the Only Store in cities like Paris or San Francisco, where it’s an essential lifeline for a myriad of household goods (with some restrictions) that can’t always be found in the grocery stores or drugstores that are still operating. The iniquities of the gig economy are still as outrageous as ever — as complaints by Amazon’s workers show — but there’s no mistaking the message sent by the company’s pledge to hire 100,000 more people: A firm once under fire for killing the economy now is the economy.
